The New Jersey Trappers Association has been in existence since 1961. Through the years we have fought hard for all legislation on trapping. This has always been a hard battle for us because we are a minority in the sports field. We will challenge any and all negative legislation using science and knowledge as our weapons. Currently, we are affiliated with Essex, Mercer, Morris, Monmouth, Sussex and Warren County Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs and are always looking for representatives and/or delegates from any other counties.
The NJTA is an organization for the trappers. We have monthly meetings, usually on the first Sunday at 1:00 PM. Any member is welcome to attend. The President runs the meeting. The elected officers are: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Field and Education Director and NTA Director. Elections for these positions are held at our annual Convention the First Sunday in October.
NJTA activities include but are not limited to: Providing education to the public on trapping by setting up a booth at sportsman shows, Pequest Trout Hatchery Open House, NJ Wild Outdoors Expo. We also help the NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife with trapper education courses and animal damage complaints. Our members also put on demonstrations for Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, local schools and other groups, and in other states having problems, have representation to the NJA and FTA Board of Directors meetings when possible; providing a monthly column in the Trapper & Predator Caller Magazine, and have our Annual Convention and General Membership meeting the first Sunday in October.
NJTA also provides a fur auction for members and non-members alike in March following our trapping season close at Space Farms located in Beemerville, NJ.
We ask that you support this organization and help save “An American Heritage.”
Thank you.
